Life Style Coaching for Mindful Alcohol Use
Life Style Coaching for Mindful Alcohol Use is a relatively new 21st-Century program that conceptualizes drinking as a life habit, dangerous for some, but pleasurable and positive for others. According to both the National Institute of Health, and the World Health Organization, most people, who have problems with drinking, are not classified as “alcohol dependent” or “alcoholic”, and can learn to drink responsibly. Learning to engage in alcohol consumption in a positive and healthy manner is possible. This coaching program is designed to help individuals develop the insight and skills necessary to be a moderate, mindful drinker.
New scientific discoveries have changed psychologist’s understanding of how the human brain operates when habits are formed or changed. This new insight is redefining how we can more rapidly alter and shift our habits to create a more rewarding and healthy life. Most individuals attempt to address their drinking problem with a dramatic and rigid approach, which often results in failure. The Life Style Coaching system utilizes brain-based strategies, including motivational and sensible self-control methods that break down change in a step by step success oriented approach, were success is more easily and comfortably attained.
Issues of relapse prevention, goal attainment and cognitive and behavioral strategies are applied based on neuroscience research about brain changes that occur with any habit pattern. Learning the common triggers and pit-falls to lapses along with a self-guided approach to healthy living and alcohol consumption are covered.
Alcohol coaching uses aspects of “Moderation Management,” which teaches people to be mindful of their alcohol consumption, while adding an independent accountability component. This program helps individuals to track how much alcohol each participant consumes on a daily basis, as well as utilizing innovative lab testing that measures possible alcohol over-use. Lab data is compiled for participants to provide feedback on their progress, giving them the information necessary to make individualized adjustments to their plan.
This program works for nondependent alcohol users. The plan is to help people develop a balanced lifestyle so that alcohol can be responsibly enjoyed. It utilizes brain science to develop new habit patterns that enable you to achieve the specific goal of mindful drinking. It is a lifelong drinking approach for those who want to practice an Epicurean balancing of desire-and-constraint.
Your alcohol use is a lifestyle habit that is made up of the decisions you make on a daily basis, the routines you engage in, your social network, personality features, family involvement and the influence of cognitive-emotional habits related to “alcohol expectancies.” Drinking exists on a spectrum and responsible drinking requires knowing your coping weaknesses and learning from your mistakes. Once drinking moves from abuse to dependency, brain patterns are significantly altered such that the addiction becomes a brain disorder, a bad habit that fundamentally re-wires the brain. This program is designed to effectively transform the triggers that interfere with a balance approach to alcohol consumption such that alcohol dependency does not occur.
Unfortunately, for a small group of individuals based on both pre-disposed genetic factors and repeated excessive drinking, physical and emotional dependency will occur, indicating that moderation is not an option. However, the transformation from significant abuse to early dependence is not easy to detect. This program will provide the best assessment possible to help the individual determine if abstinence is required, or if moderation management is an option.
Life Style Coaching for Alcohol Use is offered on an out-patient basis using holistic and up-to-date scientifically-based methods. It offers concierge type services that motivate participants to maintain mindful alcohol consumption and promote a healthy and rewarding lifestyle. It accomplishes this goal by showing how brain connections exist between how they are feeling and what they are doing. The independent assessment of possible problematic binge drinking prevents self-deception from sabotaging success. This program shows how you can establish a foundation for long term responsible and balanced alcohol consumption.
